Counselling

My approach to individual counselling is that one size does not fit all and there is no "right way" to do counselling. We are unique beings that require individualized approaches that are tailored to our needs. Taking a holistic approach, we will work together to explore, understand, and support you as a whole being.

My aim is to create a safe healing space where we can work to understand your unique life experience and how your struggles are impacting you. Working collaboratively, we will dive deeper to gain insight and develop solutions for the challenges that you are experiencing. Exploring difficult thoughts and feelings, while also integrating mindfulness and self-compassion can increase clarity and foster growth. Identifying goals will help guide our work as we move gently towards holistic healing, connecting with our true authentic selves, and accomplishing goals.  Whatever your experiences or struggles may be, they are valid and will be honoured and respected in our work together.

My therapeutic approach is warm, compassionate, understanding, and nonjudgmental. At the outset, the focus will be on building a strong therapeutic relationship - this means working to establish trust and safety. A strong therapeutic relationship is central to the change process, as it has been found to lead to more successful outcomes and positive growth. With this strong foundation, we can begin to explore your life experiences and struggles, while digging deeper into their impact and what you would like to be different. We might explore the root of your struggles, and the patterns and strategies that are no longer serving you. This might look like identifying the negative core beliefs that are influencing your feelings and behaviours and keeping you stuck in a cycle. We will draw upon your strengths and internal resources, while integrating elements of self-compassion and self-care to facilitate movement in a positive direction. Together, we will work towards creating change, achieving your desired outcome, and cultivating a rich and meaningful life.
